At the Ashford Laryngectomee Club we are all friends, and have a great social life, with Sunday Pub Lunches, Quiz nights, and two or three trips to the continent each year. At our monthly club meetings held at the William Harvey Hospital, I occasionally whip-up a poem, dedicated to one of the members. I did this one for Robin Ledger, who is a dairy farmer out Headcorn / Smarden way, who with his lovely wife Jill comes to all our functions.

Just a bit of fun.

THE FARMER'S BOY

By Len A.Hynds

They strolled down the lane together,
the night was full of stars.
They reached the gate in silence,
he lifted down the bars.

He opened the gate, and helped her through,
with his arm around her waist.
With loving thoughts neath that sky dark blue,
quite trembling in his haste.

Neither smile nor thanks, but looking coy,
because she didn't know how.
For he was only a farmers boy,
and she was a dairy cow!
